Come Autumn, Ferrari Trattoria will re-open at its long
renowned address in Bayswater Road, Kings Cross where Aldo Cupilleri first established Ferrari's twenty-seven year
credentials as one of Sydney's favourite Italian restaurants.
Saucier, chef, headwaiter, host, restaurateur Aldo will once again delightedly
welcome patrons, old and new, to his completely re-built restaurant.
Aldo's day starts at dawn at the fish market where he hand-selects the
fish he will serve that evening.
Then to the produce market to personally choose the vegetables and fruits
that will appear on plates at Ferrari Trattoria tonight.
Autumn is a favorite time of year in Italy.
Temperatures dropping, music season beginning, food at its most
glorious.
Grapes picked, big wild porcini mushrooms and chestnuts.
In Piedmont pigs and dogs are searching for truffles.
Nuts, speck (seasoned prosciutto), apple strudel, cheese, dried fruits,
porchetta (cured pork.)
In Sicily, prickly pear cactus plants are laden with fruits that taste
like nectar of the gods. Mixed with the candied rind of many different fruits to make mostarda -- not mustard -- but
served as a side dish with boiled meats. Try some, order bollito con mostarda.
Viva! Viva spaghetti, pizza, tomatoes, olive oil, espresso coffee and
cappuccino!
Is it all really 100% Italian in origin? Of course not. Since at least
the time of Marco Polo, Italians have been acquiring food ideas and expertise from all over the world, and have enhanced such
foods in ways only Italians know.
Mouth watering dishes, gastronomical specialities, a host of truly tasty
typical products, all kept very much alive by preserving the traditional flavours and nutritional values.
Wholesomeness and freshness are the watchwords in all Italy's table specialities,
in all of their countless variants, from Piedmont's fondue in the north to Sicily's caponata in the south, from risotto alla
milanese to Campania's mozzarella cheese, from Veneto's risi e bisi (sweet-peas and rice) to Rome's porchetta, from trenette
al pesto of the Ligurian coast to Florentine steaks, to the lasagna of Emilia Romagna or the spaghetti alla chitarra of Abruzzo.
Taste Italian cooking as the Italians really make it.. You are sure not
to be disappointed.
The perfect way to delight your taste buds without adding to your waistline.
To complement your meal perfectly, order a good wine that is free from all chemical
processes. Relax and choose an Italian wine. The choice is broad, but always satisfying; bright whites to go with white meats,
robust reds for red meats, and then there are rosés, sparkling wines, fortified wines, liqueurs and grappas: something to
go with every stage of your meal, from an aperitivo at the beginning to a refreshing lemon or strawberry sorbet to round off
a perfect evening.
In sum, never has there been a better time to eat and drink well Italian
style at Ferrari Trattoria, in Sydney's Kings Cross.
After dinner, check out The Alibi cabaret in the same building for
great swinging live entertainment, music and dancing.
And after The Alibi, take the elevator to 4**** Hampton Court
